700 signatures collected: almost 500 Chelsea residents.
Thank you to the 11 places in Chelsea that collected signatures to stop the demolition of the livery: New Chelsea Market, Mission Marketplace, Chelsea Print and Graphics, Chocolate Gourmet Cafe, Pierce's Pastries, Cranesbill Books, Farmers' Supply, ZouZou's, Cottage Rose, The Potting Shed, Aberdeen Bike and Outdoors (located near new post office)
If you signed the petition, thank you. It shows the support of many who value visible history and the story it tells.
Copies of the signatures were submitted to the City Council on Oct 13 and the DDA on Oct 15.

John Albert Conlan bought the Chelsea House Livery-feed and 10 Cent Barn in 1911
My father was born and raised in Chelsea. To me, that's where Grandma and Grandpa lived and all my aunts and uncles. Chelsea is special to me. My grandmother worked at Vogel's and thankfully, I can still see her being the same counter where she worked. Thank you Vogels for keeping the store as it was. I've seen too many buildings from the past destroyed by well-meaning DDA's etc. I live in Ann Arbor and do not want to see Chelsea's past destroyed by the same kind of people who do not share a deep-rooted connection to the community they now live in. It's too easy to detroy the past of smaller communities these days.
Please do not destroy the historic charm of Chelsea by taking one more thing away in the name of progress. It will not stop progress to preserve the past and make use of it for the future.
Carol Ann, Thank you for your comment. Mike Jackson, president of the DDA, owns the store at which your grandmother worked. You might give him a call and tell him your story. Mike is part of this decision on whether or not to demolish the livery. His number is: 475 1606. Register your thoughts by speaking to Mike directly!
